Improving Handwriting

Question: My son prints everything because his handwriting is so illegible. He never learned how to write well in grade school. Now that he is in high school, he thinks that he would do better on tests if he could write, because he feels printing slows him down. Is it too late for him to learn to write cursive better? - A Printer

Answer: Everybody is frustrated in some way with his or her writing speed, because it can never equal how fast we think. There is really no point in having your son learn cursive writing now. Research has shown that printing can be faster. The secret is for him to print without raising his pencil for as many individual letters as possible.

In today's world, the legibility of handwriting is far more important than the style. What really matters is that other people are able to easily read what your son has written. At this point in his life, it would be difficult for him to begin writing in cursive, unless he is willing to put forth a considerable amount of effort.
