Learning how to Follow Directions

Question: How can I help my preschooler learn to follow directions better? His teacher complains that she is always having to repeat directions for him. - Need Suggestions

Answer: Young children often have problems following a series of directions, such as "Color the door blue," "Make the chimney red," and "Then add yellow curtains." With much practice at home, this skill can be learned. It will even be fun for him if you play games, like "Simon Says," and make up your own games as well.

Begin games with simple, one-step directions, and then add more complicated directions when he is ready. Don't just give your child directions - have him give you directions, too.
