Q:

Our school has an anti-bullying program, and everyone says that it has helped, and I agree. Now, however, one of my sons is sometimes the victim of a neighborhood bully. How do we handle this? -- No More Bullying

A:

There is some disagreement among researchers about how effective anti-bullying programs actually are. One, you can talk to the child's parents. Two, avoid having the children play together if this is possible.

A more reliable way to stop bullying is to teach your son how not to be a victim. There are several excellent books on this subject. We suggest "How to Handle Bullies, Teasers and Other Meanies," by Rainbow Books, Inc., and "Simon's Hook," by GR Publishing.
