Q:

My child's IEP (Individualized Education Program) is more than 10 pages long. I don't understand it when I read it. Who can help me know what my child's IEP is saying? -- Don't Understand

A:

You attended an IEP meeting. The meetings are usually held annually. However, any member of the team can call another meeting during the year at any time. You are a member of your child's team. The school officials at the meeting have the obligation to inform and explain everything on every page of the IEP until you clearly understand the information on the page.

You need to ask questions. Reread the IEP and highlight the areas you don't understand. Then call the school representative's phone number that is on the first page of the IEP. Explain that you want another meeting soon because you would like clarification on some of the information in your child's IEP.
