Q:

I keep hearing about the importance of using the Blue Ribbon Schools Program for choosing a good school. Can you tell me how to find out which schools in my area have received this award? -- Need Information

A:

The easiest way to find Blue Ribbon Schools, the country's most outstanding public and private schools, is by going online to www.ed.gov/programs/nclbbrs/awards.html. Once you are there, you can select the schools that have been nominated recently. However, you should also look in the archives for those that were nominated earlier to get a more complete list. The Web site also gives the names of states with their own recognition programs, which have similar criteria to the national program. Caution: Many good schools might not be on the Blue Ribbon list, as they have to be in their sixth full year of operation in order to be nominated for this honor.
