Q:

Is there any way to know that my child is learning what he should be learning about reading in third grade? Everything seems to be going along all right. -- Curious

A:

Grades will only tell you how well a child is doing with a particular teacher. To find out what your child is expected to learn, check out what the school district's curriculum says he should be learning. This should tie closely with state and national standards. To learn more about what reading skills children in grades one, two, and three should have go to www.pbs.org/parents. Then search for reading development or reading milestones.
