The Role of Recommendations in College Admission

Question: Just how important are recommendations in getting admitted to a college? - Applying Senior

Answer: A forgotten aspect for seniors is the importance of recommendations. The traditional letter of recommendation has now been replaced by recommendation forms at most schools.

More than likely, the individual completing the school report form is a counselor. Thus, it is important that students, if possible, have a relationship with a counselor that lets him or her see the student as a person. If not, the student should complete a brief summary of their achievements and activities in high school. Ask counselors also if they would like the student to tell them more about themselves as well as why they want to go to certain colleges.
