Q:

I'll be taking the SAT next month and am worried about keeping up my stamina during the three hour and 45 minute test. Will the breaks be long enough to eat a snack? Also, I'm not a great writer and may not do well on the essay section. Is this going to hurt my chances of getting into a good school? -- Test Taker

A:

There are five-minute breaks after sections two and six of the test. However, your room supervisor has the latitude to extend this time, if necessary, so students can get to restrooms and/or have a snack. There is also a one-minute stretch break in the test room after section four to help keep you fresh.

At the present time, relatively few colleges are giving the same weight to the writing score as to the critical-thinking and math scores. Colleges will see the score and can also view your essay, so try to do as well as possible.
